What are the key pieces of advice you would give to a young person who is considering entrepreneurship but isn’t sure whether to take the leap?

My first piece of advice would be, don't start by thinking about wanting to be an entrepreneur, start by thinking 'what is the problem that I want to solve, and how do I solve that problem by creating value'? From my experience, entrepreneurs that thrive are those whose businesses are rooted in solving particular societal challenges and they've got a passion for getting things right.

My second piece of advice is, you start small and test if you've actually identified a problem, taking time to understand if people are experiencing the pain points you want to solve. You must be open to understanding what they are struggling with.

People also tend to think to run a business you have to have all these big resources with you immediately. They don't realise it is a journey. A journey that requires you to take small steps, and those small steps actually translate to bigger wins.

How can young people start building entrepreneurial skills even if they’re not ready to launch a business yet?

Understand the bigger picture, understand that it's a journey, and put yourself in a space where you begin to learn from different people.

One important thing you can learn is how to work with money and understand its value. Sometimes there is a feeling that once you start acquiring that you need to start spending money to show that you've arrived. But really this might stop the business getting to where you want it to get to.

Another important one is learning how to communicate and sell your idea. You have some of the best resources at your disposal in the form of social media. Use it to learn how people speak about their businesses across the world. You're not confined to a classroom, you can learn on a daily basis how influential people have got themselves to where they got to. Use what's at your fingertips.
