Meet Beacon

Beacon is a revolutionary new app to support refugees, their hosts and front line service providers. Due for release in 2025, we aim to partner with leading companies and governments to roll out Beacon across all major economies - supporting millions of refugees, significantly enhancing employment and radically reducing the cost of supporting displaced people.

Designed with the input of over 300 refugees and 17 NGOs, and built with the support of leading companies such as Deloitte, Wise, Clifford Chance and DLA Piper, Beacon will provide support on critical needs such as accommodation, employment, finances, education, healthcare and local communities - all tailored to each individual based on their language, nationality, and unique needs.

Beacon will not only empower refugees to succeed, it will also reduce the pressure on public services, cut costs for governments and ensure smoother, faster integration. Set to become a lifeline for millions, Beacon will help create a brighter future for both refugees and the communities that host them.

“Beacon is a truly exceptional concept with enormous potential, which is why Deloitte UK became the first financial supporter. Beacon can help Governments, companies and NGOs to significantly cut their costs, whilst also changing millions of lives.”

Digital guides

Becoming a refugee is a human tragedy - emotional, traumatic, and deeply challenging. Beacon’s 'digital guides' provide real, relatable advice from refugees who have faced similar struggles. Tailored to a user’s nationality, gender, and location, the filmed advice offers practical guidance on navigating key challenges like finding work, housing, healthcare, and education. Delivered by people who truly understand, these stories offer not only useful information but also a sense of hope and solidarity.

News

Beacon’s news feature provides a stream of tailored, relevant stories to keep users informed and empowered. Combining third-party articles with original content from the Beacon team and partners, the news is customised to each user’s profile—such as their host country, nationality, and circumstances. From essential updates and in-depth analysis to inspirational stories of refugees overcoming adversity, Beacon’s news ensures users have access to the latest information, advice, and insights. It also gives voice to both displaced people and host communities, sharing real-life experiences and expert perspectives.

Reporting

Beacon will generate a wealth of data that can be leveraged to drive better outcomes for both refugees and host communities. This data will be used to:

  • Monitor the usage and impact of Beacon, ensuring its effectiveness in supporting displaced people.
  • Design and deliver improved services and experiences for refugees and their hosts based on real-time insights.
  • Provide in-depth thought leadership, offering valuable insights that can inform decision-making and policy development - improving outcomes for users, partners, and stakeholders.

Uniquely, Beacon’s monthly check-ins will provide a longitudinal understanding of users over time, collecting up-to-date data on key areas such as accommodation, financial security, employment, health and well-being, location, language proficiency, and education. This ongoing data collection will provide governments, NGOs, and companies with a deeper understanding of the factors influencing refugee outcomes. By offering actionable insights, Beacon enables more targeted, cost-effective support and interventions, ultimately helping to improve the lives of refugees while reducing pressure on public services.

Corporate mentoring

BecomingX’s 'Mastering Mentoring' programme offers corporate partners a unique way to develop strong mentoring skills within their workforce while also delivering meaningful social impact. Employees, from all levels, receive training from BecomingX and elite performance specialists, and mentor refugees to help them build skills and secure employment. This hands-on experience strengthens mentoring abilities, whilst also delivering measurable impact in helping refugees build skills and get jobs. The programme is customisable, but typically runs over 3-6 months, with each participant dedicating around 8-12 hours to training and mentoring. Companies can enrol cohorts of 10 to 300 employees at a time, or join cross-company cohorts to expand professional networks.

Beacon manages every step, from employee sign-up and personalised onboarding to safeguarding, training, and AI powered matching of refugees with mentors. Key features include automated matching, in-app messaging, resources, safeguarding, progress tracking, and automated reporting on engagement, refugee feedback, and impact, helping them track both employee involvement and social outcomes.

“I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship I received. My mentor made me feel fully supported and I knew I could rely on her. Thanks to the skills and knowledge she shared during our sessions, I’m happy to say I secured the job!”
